Adventure and Outdoors
I enjoy mountain running, ski touring, mountain biking and mountaineering and these activities have taken me to many interesting places over the years. I am a Mountain Leader and member of the Mountain Training Association and have worked as a Mountain Leader on expeditions, science field trips and at trail running events. I am first aid trained. I have organised navigation events for my fell running club in the Peak district, UK.
Here you can find some ski touring trip reports (Silvretta Alps, the Haute route and Greenland), a Scottish winter climbing meet and the tale of my Paddy Buckley round (a 24 hour mountain run in North Wales), about my first experiences of mountain running in Chile and ski touring in the Cajon del Maipo in Chile, and a talk on ski touring in Baños Morales and other places in Chile with my Eagle ski club talk on youtube.
I have worked with young people in the outdoors with the personal development and adventure charity, British Exploring and have worked on several science field trips and expeditions on land and at sea. I have been a mentor and leader for PhD students in Atmospheric Science at the NCAS Atmospheric Measurement School on the island of Arran in Scotland for several years, taking them safely up Goatfell hill several times.
On a different note, find out how me and my Chilean family did participating in the Chilevision "Invencibles" sports TV show involving families competing to become "Chile´s fittest family". Watch the youTube videos of the Prieto family in action. And since mountaineers are usually interested in the environment, check out
my 2020 essay about the Importance of Environmental Science in Chile.
